Key Speakers:

Robert Axelrod

Robert Axelrod has carved a career in show business that runs the gamut. Born and raised in New York City, he did commercials and theater as a child and teen, eventually ending up in the Soho Avant-garde Theater scene in a show called “Little Trips”, then Off-Broadway in a play called “The Destroyers”. Axelrod left acting for the world of music. He spent eight years as a working rock musician playing electric bass and singing in folk, rock, and soul bands. Music brought him to Los Angeles where he decided to return to acting, a decision he never regrets.

Since then, Mr. Axelrod has appeared in over thirty feature films including four with Charles Bronson, the Sci-Fi hit remake “The Blob” with Kevin Dillon and Shawnee Smith”, “The Last Shot” with Alec Baldwin and Matthew Broderick, and many others. Television appearances include guest star roles on “Amazing Stories”, “Star Trek Voyager”, and “The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. He also starred in the Michael Jackson music video “Stranger in Moscow”.

Mr. Axelrod is also a busy voice over artist. He is the voice of Lord Zedd and Finster on the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”. The Lord Zedd voice is one of the most recognizable character voices around. He voiced Armadillomon and Wizardmon on “Digimon, Microchip, The Punisher’s sidekick, on “Spiderman”, Rico on “Robotech”, and has voiced countless Anime features including “Akira”, “The Big O”, “Cowboy Bebop”, “Brain Scratch”, et al. As Lord Zedd, he starred in both the first Power Rangers feature film and the wildly popular live show that toured the country. He was a regular character on Saban Entertainment’s “Wowser” series (as Ratso Catso), “Journey To The Heart of the World” (as Scarface), “Hallo Spencer” (as Elmer), and more. He just finished narrating the mockumentary “Safety First: The Rise of Women and voicing two Anime series, “Gaiking” and “Danguard Ace”.

Kin-Yoobi Con will feature a designated autograph signing segment with Mr. Axelrod in which attendees may also chat and ask questions with him.

Panelists:

Gilles Poitras

A famous writer of anime, manga, and Japanese culture, Gilles Poitras will be hosting a panel that he regularly does at Fanime Con, Older Titles for Newer Fans: Many fans who are relatively new to anime know only about titles that have come out in the past few years. They are often unaware of many excellent older titles that are still on the market. Come for an exposure to some of the titles any anime fan should know about. Clips of anime will be shown. Go to http://www.koyagi.com/ for more info about Gilles.

Ian Sy

Ian Sy of Studio Kyuu (www.studiokyuu.com) is a freelance artist and graphic designer who has worked with Dark Horse, PMBQ Studios, and Bay Area Artists Unite. His experience is in storyboarding, page layout, and coloring, but also works on his own comics and illustrations! The "Writing for Comics" panel will show how the roles of writer and artist must come together and make decisions about how best to use the page. Thumbnailing, page layout, and editing will be discussed. Questions and discussion are encouraged!

Neal "Iie" Trotter & Dallas "No. 6" Marshall

Co-founder of Game-Zone Recreation and Kin-Yoobi Con, Iie, and leader of the anime faction of GZR, No. 6, will be leading three controversial topics in the anime and game community.

Topic number 1: Manga or Anime, which is better? A huge amount of purist are heartfelt in believing that manga is always the best however you'd be surprised by how many anime fans would much rather sit and watch an animation than read a black and white comic.

Topic number 2: Dubs vs. Subs, which is the better take on anime. The typical otaku generally prefers the Japanese subtitles when watching anime, yet today's anime new comer would not have even stopped to look at an anime without it first being dubbed over with English voicing. We weigh in the points of view in one of the biggest clashes in the anime community.

Topic number 3: Which console is the best, the Nintendo Wii, the Microsoft Xbox 360, or the Sony PlayStation 3? You best believe that tensions are going to rise from Nintendo fan boys, hardcore Sony fans, and Xbox purists. Not a discussion for those who are easily offended in the heart of a heated argument.

The Printed Otaku

The Printed Otakus, a vendor at Kin-Yoobi Con will also be hosting a panel, "Animes You Should Watch Other Than Naruto and Bleach": Don't get us wrong, we love those two series. But it's time we add some more diversity to your otaku lineup, this panel will be designed to showcase series that came in under the radar, but are totally worth your money!! Bring a notepad and paper, cause you will want to note which series will reign supreme!

Steven Savage

Steven Savage co-runs a blog called Fan To Pro which he will convert to a panel for Kin-Yoobi Con: Thinking about turning your fannish interests into a career?  Come discuss the opportunities, the challenges and the surprises that you have or will face in turning the things you love into the things you do for life. Check out the blog this panel is based off of at www.fantopro.com.
